Post surgery!

Bianca had TPLO surgery on 3/27 to repair a torn ACL. Here are some pictures from her first few days.

First day back from the hospital. The bruising on the leg is very bad, but normal. You can't tell from this photo but there are about 20 staples in this leg. Bianca wouldn't eat at the hospital but miraculously found her appetite when we brought her home and offered her chicken instead of kibble.

Same leg, a little blurry. (The dog was not cooperating and the Iphone camera is not exactly professional equipment)

The perfect shaved square on Bianca's back was a mystery to me, so I asked the vet what it was for. Answer : an epidural. I begin to understand why this cost over 3 grand... (The epidural was apparently delivered in such a way that it took the worst of the surgery pain post-op). This was in addition to healthy amounts of Tramadol - I'm think the few minutes the dog was awake after the surgery, she was feeling better than she ever had in her life!

This is the cone they sent her home in. You see how much she likes it, although Paul said, "Awww, she looks like a little flower." Yes, a little, expensive, unhappy flower.

Since the standard cone was pretty uncomfortable (and we're looking at weeks of wearing it) we invested in a Comfy Cone. This is much better and Bianca tolerates it quite well. Not that you can tell by the picture below, where she perfects her look of sheer put-upon misery.

Recovery is easy right now, as the pain medication slows her down so she isn't noticing her confinement much. That will change within a few weeks, and then the real fun starts!
